Eligibility for Merchant Navy :
Merchant Navy can be joined after 10th as seafarer after qualifying pre sea courses or after 12th as an officer through various degree or diploma courses in mainly two specialized fields, Nautical (Deck) and Marine engineering. Unmarried Female and Male candidate are eligible .
Age Limit : 16-25 Years
Medical Standards:
Candidates should be physically and Mentally strong, fit for sea-services under standard norms
Eye-Sight :
6/6 without glasses, No color Blindness. (The candidate is subject to medical examination).
Courses to Join Merchant Navy ;
There are various courses to join after 10th or 12th in both private and govt training institute recognized and approved by Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping. These are ;-
· Pre Sea Training – In this course, you will get proper training of maintenance of engine as well as a deck . It is also known as G.P.R (General Purpose Training) you can join this course after 10th with a minimum aggregate percentage of 40% with Mathematics, science and English as a compulsory subject and should have 40% marks in each of them. The time duration of this course is 06 months and age limit is joining this course is 17 to 25 years. Beside that other short term courses are also there
3 month Pre-Sea Course in Deck Rating.
3 month Pre-Sea Course in Engine Rating.
4 month Pre-Sea Course in Saloon Rating.
· Deck Cadet – In this course you are given a diploma in Nautical Science. The minimum education qualification for this course is 10+2 with P.C.M (Physics, Chemistry and Math) as compulsory subjects and you should have scored minimum 50% in aggregate and 50% in English at 12th level.

मर्चेंट नेवी में शामिल होने के लिए पाठ्यक्रम; जहाजरानी महानिदेशक, जहाजरानी महानिदेशालय द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त और अनुमोदित दोनों निजी और सरकारी प्रशिक्षण संस्थानों में 10 वीं या 12 वीं के बाद शामिल होने के लिए विभिन्न पाठ्यक्रम हैं। Theses हैं; -
· प्री सी ट्रेनिंग - इस कोर्स में आपको इंजन के रखरखाव के साथ-साथ डेक का भी उचित प्रशिक्षण मिलेगा। इसे G.P.R (सामान्य प्रयोजन प्रशिक्षण) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, आप 10 वीं के बाद गणित, विज्ञान और अंग्रेजी के न्यूनतम प्रतिशत के साथ अनिवार्य विषय के रूप में 10 वीं के बाद इस पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल हो सकते हैं और उनमें से प्रत्येक में 40% अंक होने चाहिए। इस कोर्स की समयावधि 06 महीने है और आयु सीमा 17 से 25 वर्ष है। इसके अलावा अन्य अल्पकालिक पाठ्यक्रम भी हैं

· डेक कैडेट - इस कोर्स में आपको नॉटिकल साइंस में डिप्लोमा दिया जाता है। इस पाठ्यक्रम के लिए न्यूनतम शिक्षा योग्यता अनिवार्य विषयों के रूप में P.C.M (भौतिक विज्ञान, रसायन विज्ञान और गणित) के साथ 10 + 2 है और आपको 12 वीं स्तर पर कुल 50% और अंग्रेजी में 50% अंक प्राप्त करने चाहिए।
· एसटीसीडब्ल्यू कोर्स - यह मूल रूप से एक सुरक्षा पाठ्यक्रम है जो प्रत्येक सीमैन के लिए अनिवार्य है। इसमें चार बेसिक कोर्स यानी EFA (एलिमेंटरी फर्स्ट एड), EPFF (फायर प्रिवेंशन एंड फायर फाइटिंग), PST (प्रोविजनल सर्वाइवल टेक्नीक) और PSSR (पेसोनल सेफ्टी एंड सोशल रिस्पॉन्सिबिलिटी) शामिल हैं। यह पूरी तरह से 15 दिनों का कार्यक्रम है।

Prior to joining any of these above mentioned a person is required to make up his choice whether he wants to join Merchant Navy on the Engine Side or Deck Side(Navigation Side) and depending upon his interests he/she must choose the course as first two courses are for deck side and the last one is for engine side.
Some common eligibility criteria for both the courses:
- The Candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any kind of bodily effect which can interfere with efficient performance at sea.
- EyeSight should be 6/6 normal in each eye separately(Nowadays if a candidate is not having 6/6 eyesight he/she can opt for Lasik surgery and get its eyesight corrected before joining the course.
- No Color Blindness should be there in candidates sight.
- The Candidates age must be less than 25 yrs prior to taking admission

2 Pay and perks
Merchant navy jobs are high paying. I do agree that this sector has lost its old glory. Pay and perks are not as good as it used to be. Competition has increased and average salary has gone down a bit.
Still, compared to other professions, the merchant navy does pay decently! With increase in work experience, salary will definitely increase.
3 NRI status
Sailors who sail for more than 182 days are given the status of NRI by the Government of India. If a sailor sets on journey (away from India) for more than 182 days, he or she, technically can identify as a NRI.
This NRI status can be used to avail Income tax as well as other financial benefits. The income of an NRI sailor will be totally tax free! To attain the NRI status, the sailor must have have spent more than 182 days of a financial year outside India. If he or she satisfies this criteria, the income will be tax free for that particular financial year.

मर्चेंट नेवी के लिए पात्रता; मर्चेंट नेवी 10 वीं के बाद पूर्व समुद्री पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए अर्हता प्राप्त करने के बाद या 12 वीं के बाद विभिन्न डिग्री या डिप्लोमा पाठ्यक्रमों के माध्यम से एक अधिकारी के रूप में मुख्य रूप से दो विशेष क्षेत्रों, नॉटाल (डेक) और मरीन इंजीनियरिंग में शामिल हो सकते हैं। अविवाहित महिला और पुरुष उम्मीदवार पात्र हैं।
आयु सीमा: 16-25 वर्ष

मर्चेंट नेवी में शामिल होने के लिए पाठ्यक्रम; जहाजरानी महानिदेशक, जहाजरानी महानिदेशालय द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त और अनुमोदित दोनों निजी और सरकारी प्रशिक्षण संस्थानों में 10 वीं या 12 वीं के बाद शामिल होने के लिए विभिन्न पाठ्यक्रम हैं। Theses हैं; -
· प्री सी ट्रेनिंग - इस कोर्स में आपको इंजन के रखरखाव के साथ-साथ डेक का भी उचित प्रशिक्षण मिलेगा। इसे G.P.R (सामान्य प्रयोजन प्रशिक्षण) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, आप 10 वीं के बाद गणित, विज्ञान और अंग्रेजी के न्यूनतम प्रतिशत के साथ अनिवार्य विषय के रूप में 10 वीं के बाद इस पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल हो सकते हैं और उनमें से प्रत्येक में 40% अंक होने चाहिए। इस कोर्स की समयावधि 06 महीने है और आयु सीमा 17 से 25 वर्ष है। इसके अलावा अन्य अल्पकालिक पाठ्यक्रम भी हैं

· डेक कैडेट - इस कोर्स में आपको नॉटिकल साइंस में डिप्लोमा दिया जाता है। इस पाठ्यक्रम के लिए न्यूनतम शिक्षा योग्यता अनिवार्य विषयों के रूप में P.C.M (भौतिक विज्ञान, रसायन विज्ञान और गणित) के साथ 10 + 2 है और आपको 12 वीं स्तर पर कुल 50% और अंग्रेजी में 50% अंक प्राप्त करने चाहिए।
· एसटीसीडब्ल्यू कोर्स - यह मूल रूप से एक सुरक्षा पाठ्यक्रम है जो प्रत्येक सीमैन के लिए अनिवार्य है। इसमें चार बेसिक कोर्स यानी EFA (एलिमेंटरी फर्स्ट एड), EPFF (फायर प्रिवेंशन एंड फायर फाइटिंग), PST (प्रोविजनल सर्वाइवल टेक्नीक) और PSSR (पेसोनल सेफ्टी एंड सोशल रिस्पॉन्सिबिलिटी) शामिल हैं। यह पूरी तरह से 15 दिनों का कार्यक्रम है।

योग्यता - बीई (मेच) इंजीनियरिंग / नौसेना आर्क में स्नातक। अंतिम वर्ष में न्यूनतम 50% अंकों के साथ और 10 वीं या 12 वीं या डिग्री परीक्षा में अंग्रेजी भाषा में 50% न्यूनतम अंकों के साथ।
मर्चेंट नेवी प्रवेश परीक्षा;
ऑल इंडिया मर्चेंट नेवी एंट्रेंस टेस्ट (AIMNET) भारत शिपिंग लिमिटेड द्वारा आमतौर पर निम्नलिखित पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए हर साल नवंबर-दिसंबर के महीने में आयोजित किया जाता है;
B.Tech NAVAL ARCHITECURE & SHIP BUILDING (4 वर्ष) योग्यता -Pass HSC या 10 + 2 किसी मान्यता प्राप्त बोर्ड से 50% औसत के साथ PCM (भौतिक विज्ञान, रसायन विज्ञान, गणित) में अधिकतम आयु -25 वर्ष।

PRE-SEA ट्रेनिंग जी.पी. M.B.A. SHIPPING और उपस्कर: GOVT से मान्यता प्राप्त विश्वविद्यालय या मेरिनर्स से कोई भी डिग्री प्राप्त करना, किसी मान्यता प्राप्त संस्थान से 10 + 2 या डिप्लोमा के बाद 6 साल के अध्ययन-सह प्रशिक्षण के बाद प्राप्त की गई व्यावसायिक योग्यता।
(ए) मास्टर विदेशी योग्यता का प्रमाण पत्र जा रहा है।
या
(बी) प्रथम श्रेणी मोटर या संयुक्त (मुख्य अभियंता) डीजी शिपिंग (नौवहन महानिदेशालय), एमओएस (जहाजरानी मंत्रालय), भारत सरकार या अन्य देशों में इसके समकक्षों द्वारा जारी की गई योग्यता का प्रमाण पत्र।
1 यात्रा करने का अवसर

2 वेतन और भत्ते
मर्चेंट नेवी जॉब्स उच्च भुगतान कर रहे हैं। मैं इस बात से सहमत हूं कि इस क्षेत्र ने अपना पुराना गौरव खो दिया है। वेतन और भत्ते उतने अच्छे नहीं हैं, जितना पहले हुआ करते थे। प्रतिस्पर्धा बढ़ गई है और औसत वेतन थोड़ा नीचे चला गया है।
फिर भी, अन्य व्यवसायों की तुलना में, व्यापारी नौसेना शालीनता से भुगतान करती है! कार्य अनुभव में वृद्धि के साथ, वेतन निश्चित रूप से बढ़ेगा।
3 एनआरआई का दर्जा
182 दिनों से अधिक समय तक नाविकों को भारत सरकार द्वारा एनआरआई का दर्जा दिया जाता है। यदि कोई नाविक 182 दिनों से अधिक की यात्रा (भारत से दूर) करता है, तो वह तकनीकी रूप से एक एनआरआई के रूप में पहचान कर सकता है।
इस एनआरआई स्थिति का उपयोग आयकर के साथ-साथ अन्य वित्तीय लाभों का लाभ उठाने के लिए किया जा सकता है। एक एनआरआई नाविक की आय पूरी तरह से कर मुक्त होगी! एनआरआई का दर्जा प्राप्त करने के लिए, नाविक ने भारत के बाहर वित्तीय वर्ष के 182 से अधिक दिन बिताए होंगे। यदि वह इस मानदंड को पूरा करता है, तो उस विशेष वित्तीय वर्ष के लिए आय कर मुक्त होगी।
4 छुट्टियां

लेकिन असाइनमेंट के बाद, कोई भी छुट्टियों के उदार खिंचाव का आनंद ले सकता है! उदाहरण के लिए, कोई 2, 3 या उससे अधिक महीनों के आराम का आनंद ले सकता है (ड्यूटी की अवधि पूरी करने के बाद)। यह, एक हद तक, जहाज पर भेजे गए लंबे समय की भरपाई करता है!
5 दुनिया भर के लोगों के साथ काम करने की संभावना
