#Job Roles and Responsibility of a Ramp Agent or Line Inspector of an Airline

Ramp Agent or Line inspector is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving baggage and cargo from aircraft and transportation hubs around the airport before and after the security boundary. In addition, they also carry out inspections, hazard checks and operate equipment such as stairs and bridges.
Job description:
Ramp agents play an essential role in ensuring that flights run on time by maintaining detailed records of goods, baggage, and cargo from aircraft and guide aircraft to and from their gates. They must also work diligently to provide ground support services and support equipment, including aircraft stair units, baggage carts, belt loaders, and baggage tugs. Other jobs performed by a ramp agent are-
1. Verify luggage tags
2. Verifies flight-related information
3. Assists with pushback and towing
4. Ensures safety in the airport
5. Inspects ramp areas
6. Helps in placing luggage in conveyor belts
7. Restocks items and cleans aircraft as needed
8. Gives visual signals in directing parking and departing planes
9. provide under-wing services to aircraft
10. act as marshals
Key Responsibilities:
• The position requires the ramp agent to assume responsibility for the safety of the crew and passengers.
• Make sure the plane is ready to take off
• Ensure all luggage ends up on the proper aircraft and operating any of the machinery necessary to accomplish the various tasks assigned.
• Protect baggage and other equipment from damage, loss, and weather conditions
• Able to Drive and operate ground equipment
• Assist with record-keeping and documentation to ensure correct routing of baggage
• Report equipment problems and breakdowns to facilitate fast repairs
• Directing traffic, attaching stairs and bridges to aircraft, and operating a variety of ground machinery
• Report any item that looks suspicious
• Complying with all airport authority and carrier security requirements
• Delivering passenger baggage to the claim area and unloading luggage onto the conveyor system
• Extra responsibilities include cleaning the aircraft, directing it to and from the gates, and operating the ground equipment necessary to secure, load, and unload the plane
Requirements:
For the entry-level, the candidate needs to be a minimum of 18 years old.
Should have a school diploma or a two-year degree and experience is not required but can be advantageous
Successful completion of a ramp services training program
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Excellent physical fitness and strength
a valid driver's license
Salary and benefits:
The average salary of a ramp agent is around $ 15/ hour, which may vary from $10 to $20, depending on the experience. Pay rates depend on the Airline, location, level of expertise, and the company's size or organization. Adding to the salary, a ramp agent also receives other benefits, including health coverage, air travel perks, retirement plan services, etc.
