Promises of Earning Money by Writing Restaurant Reviews on Google

A recent scam has emerged targeting individuals with enticing offers, only to ensnare them in a fraudulent scheme.

Reports have surfaced regarding a scam where unsuspecting individuals are approached with promises of earning money by writing restaurant reviews on Google. However, what appears to be a legitimate opportunity is, in reality, a deceptive trap.

Ruchi Kumar's experience sheds light on the deceptive nature of this scheme. After filing a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, Ruchi recounted being contacted via WhatsApp by an individual offering an easy income stream by rating restaurants on Google. Tempted by the proposition, Ruchi agreed and was subsequently added to a Telegram group where he was tasked with writing reviews.

Initially, participants received nominal payments for each task. However, the situation escalated when they were coerced into investing significant sums of money with promises of high returns. Regrettably, many, including Ruchi, fell victim to this ploy, transferring substantial amounts in hopes of lucrative gains.

Om Prakash, one of the perpetrators, confessed to being part of a larger syndicate facilitated through Telegram groups. These groups, orchestrated by individuals like Vipul, enticed victims with various job opportunities, ranging from liking YouTube videos to cryptocurrency trading. Victims were lured in with fabricated success stories and promises of wealth, only to be manipulated into investing more and more.

This scam operates through WhatsApp and Telegram messages, targeting individuals with enticing offers before coercing them into investing money. Victims often find themselves subjected to demands for penalty payments when they fail to meet the stringent requirements set by the fraudsters.

It's crucial to remain vigilant and exercise caution when presented with such offers. Remember, if an opportunity sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Stay informed and stay safe!

Please note:

Google does not compensate users for writing reviews. Reviews should be unsolicited and unbiased according to Google's review policies. While users can earn points and badges for writing reviews, these rewards are for early access to Google features and perks, not monetary compensation.
