Top Competitive Exams After 12th Science (Medical): Pathways to a Bright Career

COMPETITIVE EXAMS AFTER 12TH SCIENCE (MEDICAL)

India is known for some of the most prestigious educational institutes that are spread across the country. Every year, various states and exam conducting bodies conduct various entrance exams for 12 pass students who want to pursue further education. Students from the Science stream, who want to make a bright career must know and prepare for these entrance exams after 12th science to make a career in their respective field of interest.

The top Medical entrance exams after 12th in India are NEET, AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, PGIMER, CMC VELLORE, BVP CET, MU OET, and KIITEE. These exams are conducted for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Being a doctor, though, takes more than passion and interest. The NEET is the single entrance exam needed to get admission to several Indian medical schools.

  • NEET- (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) is the single entrance examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to medical (MBBS) as well as dental (BDS) colleges across India, be it public, private, or deemed-to-be. As per the order of the Supreme Court of India in May 2016, NEET has effectively scrapped All-India Pre-Medical Tests (AIPMT) and all individual state-level medical entrance exams.

  • AIIMS MBBS -The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences MBBS entrance exam (AIIMS MBBS) is among the 3 most eminent national-level entrance exams for undergraduates to write. This exam is particularly useful to anyone who wishes to join any AIIMS autonomous government medical institute in India. It's also the most competitive, seeing as how approximately 3 lakh aspirants would have applied for it annually.

  • JIPMER MBBS -Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research MBBS exam (JIPMER MBBS) is a national-level medical entrance exam conducted annually by JIPMER, Puducherry. The MBBS entrance exam of JIPMER offers admissions to 150 seats at the JIPMER Puducherry campus and 50 seats at the JIPMER Karaikal campus. More than 1.5 lakh aspirants apply for the online entrance exam.Since AIIMS and JIPMER are the Institutes of National Importance (INI), they are out of the NEET ambit and conduct their own entrance examinations.

  • AFMC- Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) offers education in the field of medicine. This college gives admission to the MBBS course on the basis of NEET Scores. AFMC provides admission to 130 MBBS seats including 10 seats for SC/ST candidates (105 seats for boys and 25 seats for girls). Candidates can register online when the registration process starts.

  • PGIMER-  Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is conducted only for admissions to PG medical courses and is one of the most competitive entrance examinations in India. Similar to AIIMS PG and JIPMER PG, PGIMER is also conducted twice a year in January and July sessions. PGIMER is an offline medical entrance exam with 250 questions and 3 hours as its duration. Since it's out of NEET PG's ambit, PGIMER conducts its own exams.

  • CMC Vellore- CMC Vellore (Christian Medical College) is a Christian minority educational college that offers admissions to students in various UG, PG, and diploma courses in the medical field. The authority releases the application form in an online format only. Admissions to MBBS courses are done on the basis of entrance scores followed by an aptitude test set by CMC.

  • BVP CET- BVP CET is a university-level exam organized by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed-to-be University (AKA Bharti Vidyapeeth). The institute does not conduct any entrance exam for providing admissions in MBBS & BDS, which is why candidates must qualify for the BVP CET exam instead. The admission and counseling process is done by MCC (Medical Common Counseling).

  • MU OET (now called MET)- is an entrance test carried out by Manipal University. No entrance exam is conducted by the university for admission to medical courses. Admissions in PG medical courses are done through NEET PG and MBBS & BDS admissions are given through MET scores.

  • KIIT- Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology gives admissions to PG Medical, PG Dental, and MBBS & BDS courses on the basis of the KIITEE exam. Students have to qualify for the KIITEE exam to get admission to medical and dental courses. The application form can be accessed via online mode through the website. This 3-hour exam is conducted annually. Even after filling up the form, if the candidates do not meet the eligibility criteria for KIITEE, they cannot write the exam.
