The Indian Space Research Organization has started a special program for school children from this year, named "Youth Scientific Program" (Yuvika), which is in line with Government's vision of "Jai Jyaan, Jai Nisutan".
The program is primarily aimed at providing basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the young people with the intention of creating their interest in emerging areas of space activities. In this way this program is aimed at creating awareness amongst the youth who are the building blocks of the future of our nation. This will help them to appreciate what is being taught in the school and its actual application in space science and technology. ISRO has chosen this program to "catch them young".
The program will be about two weeks duration during the summer holidays and invited events in the program, sharing experiences through eminent scientists, facilitation and laboratory visits, special sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
It is proposed to select 3 students from each State / Union Territory to participate in this program while covering CBSE, ICSE and State courses. Those who have completed 8th grade and currently studying in 9th standard, they will be eligible for the program.
ISRO has contacted the Chief Secretaries of the administrators of the respective states / Union Territories in India to arrange the selection of three students from each of their states / UTs and tell the list to ISRO. Selection is based on academic performance and extra-curricular activities, which are clearly described in the selection criteria, which are already circulated to the administrators of the Chief Secretaries / Union Territories of the States.
The selected students will be accommodated in the ISRO guest house / hostel. Expenditure towards the student's journey (second AC fares for the reporting center and the rear by the nearest train station), course material, housing and boarding etc., will be borne by ISRO throughout the course. Second AC fare will also be provided to a parent to drop and withdraw student from the reporting center.
