What Stays After the Session?

 What Stays After the Session?

A session ends.

But does the learning?

Recently, Shiffy Srivastava received her 29th LinkedIn recommendation.

The number itself is not the interesting part.

What matters is what sits behind it: moments, conversations and experiences that people remembered well enough to put into words.

It points to a larger question about learning and development:

Is impact measured by what happens inside the session—or by what happens afterwards?

A leader communicates with more clarity.

A professional tells a story with purpose.

A difficult conversation becomes easier to navigate.

Someone stops searching for the “right answer” and starts asking better questions.

That is the difference between attending a programme and developing a capability.

Shiffy’s approach reflects this belief.

She doesn’t start with a training programme.

She starts with the business challenge.

What needs to change?

What behaviour needs to become visible?

And how will people practise it before they are expected to perform it?

Because the real test of learning isn’t the applause at the end of a session.

It is what happens in the next real conversation.

Twenty-nine recommendations may be a milestone.

But the more meaningful measure of the work is harder to quantify:

When the learning stays with people after the facilitator leaves the room.

For organisations investing in leadership and capability, perhaps that is the question worth asking:

What will our people actually do differently after the session?
