Mistakes Parents of Teens Need to Avoid

#Avoid Ego

#Don't Unde or Over-Identify with Your Teens

#Don't take anything too Personally

#Don't Model losing control to someone

Struggling to keep his Cool

#Don't Engage in Power Struggles

#Don't  try to Compensate for a Spouse

You think is too Lenient or too Strict

#Don't Talk when you need to Listen.

As a Parent of Teenager, it becomes quite challenging to raise them in modern society. Realize that your teen children are smart and do not need your advice in every single aspect.  If you have a Teenager, this means you have officially entered into a phase where parental guidance is less important and friends opinions matter for them. Just make sure they have enough confidence to not fall into stupidity.

#GuidingRightPath:  Every Parent's strongest fear is their Teens involved with bad stuff. Make them comprehend the consequences of having Alcohol, Cigarettes as a minor. Also, other illegal stuff like Teen pregnancy, drugs, Shoplifting, Stealing are needed to be supervised on a regular basis.

#TrustTheirAmbitions: Have complete faith in your children and remember that they have ambitions and intelligence too. Value and trust their instincts in this regard. Have goals for your kids but do not impose on them. Encourage them, but without using force.

#ListenToYourTeens: Always be a good listener when you have a Teen at home. Many parents think it goes the other way around that they are supposed to listen to parents. But to model the right behavior, listen to their problems. If you respect your kids and treat them like real people, they should learn to respect you.

Raise a teen boy or a girl like any other person. Like how you want yourself to be treated if you were in a situation where most of your power had been taken away. Give the power to your teen and mold them to use it the right way.

The cultural myth of believing that the teenage years are the best years of a person’s life needs to be stopped. The reality is that they go through hormonal changes that are hard to deal with. Their bodies are changing. Teens are under sheer pressure over various things like exams, anger, sexual development, and trust issues. They are literally walking a fine line between being kids and adults.

Raising teenagers is tough because part of the mechanism of developing autonomy they go through. It becomes tougher because they are still your child. You want to protect them and stop them from committing mistakes. So, the best advice is - Making mistakes is part of the process, and all a parent can do is to stand back and let kids figure things out. However, make sure to prevent them from making permanent and life-altering mistakes.

WHAT TO DO AFTER HAVING AN ARGUMENT WITH YOUR TEENAGER By: Mannat Sandhu

WHAT TO DO AFTER HAVING AN ARGUMENT WITH YOUR TEENAGER

By:

Mannat Sandhu

Having a fight with your children, especially Teenagers is very normal. But often these conflicts go  out of hand. Basic disagreements often turn into heated or violent situations. Parents need to understand that before the situation escalates, they need to calm themselves down and need to find a solution.

Below listed are some tips on what to do after you have a fight with your Teenager:

 1.  Take some time off

After the disagreement, you should take some time out. Because you’re still in that heated zone, any further conversation would just aggravate the situation. Take a walk outside, cool yourself down.

2.  Think from Your Child’s Perspective

Being a parent you should understand that you have also gone through the pade your Teenager is going through. You should understand that the adolescent age is such that Teenagers face certain problems of their own. Things are changing for them, and this is all new to them. So you should try to understand their situation.

3.  Sit down together and have a conversation

In order to solve any conflict, a calm conversation is the best solution. After you have calmed down, you should sit down with your Teenagerand try to sort out the disagreement. Try to accept the mistakes, and listen out to what the child wants to say.

4.  Accept Your Small Mistakes

It's not always the case that Children are wrong. Sometimes the parents are not able to understand what their child is trying to say and they just feel that what they do is the correct way.

But sometimes, due to this lack of communication, the essence of the conversation gets lost. You need to reales that due to the age gap, there can be certain things that you might look at differently than your child. If you realise that you are wrong, then you should accept it, there is nothing wrong in that.

5.  Do not hold any Grudge

Sometimes what happens is that parents often get angry at the fact that their child tries to do something against their wishes. They hold grudges against their children for acting out. Most parents do this unintentionally, but this can further dissuade the child.

You need to keep a check on yourself and try to calm down. You should realise that if you explain to your child calmly, they will surely understand.

6.  Punishment is not the Solution

If your Teenager has made a mistake, reprimanding them with a hard punishment is not a solution. Getting angry with them or punishing them can lead to situations spiralling out of control.

You should definitely reprimand the worst mistakes, but try to come up with constructive punishments. In this, the Teenagers will not only get a chance to understand their mistakes but also learn from them. Try to make them understand calmly so that they don’t consider you their enemy but a friend.

It is very important for you to understand that what your Teenager needs the most is the support and you understand the most.

How To Raise Happy And Successful Teenagers By Nirupama Shyam

How To Raise Happy And Successful Teenagers

By

Nirupama Shyam

Raising a Teenager is difficult but not impossible. Parents

The first and foremost thing to comprehend is if parents are happy, children are happy. But we would not say the same to being successful though. This is because parents need to set examples for their children. As it is obvious that children. knowingly or unknowingly, do the same as parents do. Since they are wholly inclined towards parents, let us understand some unknown facts here.

1. If you are abusive towards your spouse, chances are that the teenager also gets fixated on violence and thinks it is a way to control things.

2. If you are addicted to something, chances are that your child will also go towards the same path. This means, as a parent, be an example yourself how you would want your child to be.

3. Let them be independent and learn by themselves. Counsel them in a friendly manner and do not spoon-feed everything. Let them fall and gradually, they will learn through their own experiences. But never ever forget to be their biggest supporter in life.

4. Push them to socialize and mingle with people. Ask them to hang out with people of different social classes and ages. Because this is how they see the world and eventually evolve. Climbing success through hard work brings great satisfaction and pride in the long run.

No matter what, the age range between thirteen to nineteen is a vital period in an individual's life. Huge steps are taken within that portion. Parents should help their teens to take on the right amount of responsibility and independence to become successful teenagers. Big Leaders like Bill gates started their ascent to fame and fortune early. Mr Gates spent his teenage years learning to code. Warren Buffett worked at a young age by handling several personal business ventures such as selling golf balls, stamps, and setting up pinball machines in barbershops. And lastly, coding was an early hobby of Mark Zuckerberg's. The Facebook founder created a messaging program for his dad's dental office when he was 12.

So let's check a few points to help Teens Successful:

1.  Always Be Yourself No Matter What

2. Strive To Do Your Best In School And College.

3. Be Aware Of What You Are Doing And Think Twice.

4. Always Do what you Love the most.

5. Never take Drugs or go for illegal stuff.

6. Imagine Your Future and Chase your Goals

7. Choose your friends wisely

Tips To Parenting Teenagers By Nirupama Shyam

Tips To Parenting Teenagers

By

Nirupama Shyam

Raising a Teenager is difficult but not impossible. Parents need to understand for themselves that the rational part of their teens' brains is not entirely developed for the logical purpose. This is because we adults can make good judgment and use better conscience, but teens use the emotional part of their brain. Parents, at any cost, need to stand firm and guide them perpetually to make proper judgments. At the same time, do not forget to give them some freedom to learn and grow from their mistakes and deal with consequences.

1. Instead of assuming what your teen child is thinking, be communicative. This will help avoid misunderstanding to a great extent and build up a profound rapport in an amicable manner.

2. Knowing them better is really important. This is the time when they start to really have a defined personality and interests. If you do not know what their interests are, there will be an invisible wall between you two.

3. Do not judge but understand their problems, no matter how silly they sound. Make them trust that you will not judge or attack them if they spill out their common problems.

4. Lastly, show empathy and put yourself in their shoes.

Teens Want To Make Their Own Decisions:

Parents should realize that biologically the teen years are solely dedicated to their own ideas. They always want to make their own decisions. Give them a safe space to try out on their own and refrain from pulling back in usual circumstances. It can be a recipe for disaster if parents rub their own ideas on their teenage children. Instead, work with them and recognize they want more space. Discuss practical ways and ask not too many uncomfortable questions. They need to be able to trust you even if they have screwed up something.

Some Tips To Build Connectivity With Teens:

1. Be A Good Listener

2. Always Give them Honest and Supportive advice.

3. Most of all, celebrate with them and enjoy the positive parts of Parenting a Teenager.

4. Since Teen years are stressful, Parents need to understand that they also go through some difficult issues outside of the home such as bullying at school, exam tension, negativity around and other factors. The least they want is rejection from your side. Your job as a parent is to assist them contain these recurring Feelings and learn to express them even more constructively.
